The state of Michigan has awarded a $850,000 grant to back the expansion of metal finishing company Almond Products in Spring Lake Township.

Almond is spending $5.3 million to expand its facility as its business grows. The expansion is expected to add 72 jobs. The additional state money will go toward upgrading the Grand Haven/Spring Lake sewer system so it can support the plant expansion. Spring Lake Township is also giving Almond a 50 percent property tax abatement to encourage the project.

Almond, which works with the automotive industry, military and office furniture companies, already has manufacturing operations in Mexico, but chose to expand in western Michigan.
