The NASF West Coast Bright Design class has started, and 15 students from the Art Center of Design in Pasadena have toured K&L Anodizing and General/Brite Plating to get a look at what it takes to anodize and plate metal components.

Students from the college are asked to think beyond traditional design theory and bring out there very best creative spirit in developing "next generation" creative and engineering solutions incorporating various types of surface finishing coatings. About $15,000 in scholarships are awarded each year to students who present the best product using surface finishing techniques.

Sponsors of the West Coast Bright Design Challenge include the NASF West Coast Chapters -- the Metal Finishers of Southern, Northern and San Diego, California -- as well as the Art Center of Design in Pasadena.

The students are very involved and have spent several hours at these shops learning about surface finishing. Bryan Leiker, president of K&L Anodizing and president of the MFASC, said a very special thank you to Alan Olick for the time he puts in to make this class possible.
