Swirl Marks In The Paint
We have a rather large plastic part. After painting it shows swirls that appear to be made by a brush. swirls are positive and can be felt using one’s finger. Can you make any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem? Could there be a residue from the wash left on the surface or something in the molding of the part?

I am a chemist for a paint supplier. I need to test a paint on steel panels and production parts and send them to an independent laboratory for testing. At what dry film thickness should the panels be sprayed for testing? Should the supplier paint the panels or should I have to? Do the panels need to be painted on both sides? Since we need to use an independent testing laboratory, can you recommend one?

Our company has an anodizing vendor that recently had some problems with our hardcoat anodized (Type III) parts. The problem was leakage around the masking, resulting in poor quality parts. The anodizer claims they can chemically strip the hardcoat and re-anodize the parts. Is it possible to strip hardcoat anodized coatings?

1) I would love to be able to get my hands on a book that can teach me a great deal more on the passivation process. Is there such a book out there? 2) We rinse parts in a closed-loop bath that is not controlled for pH or any other content parameters. Under what conditions do you need to take the acid bath step? 3) I am setting up passivation and chem film lines in a shop and am wondering what are some good resources for getting started? 4) Are there biocompatibility issues with passivating stainless steel?

The problem we are having is around the orifices where there are a double set of welds. Our material, which adheres to most ferrous and nonferrous metals, is adhering to the vertical surfaces of the orifices with no problem. Shortly after application, however, it will flow off the welds, forming an area of foam around the bottom of the weld. We not sure why this is happening or what to do to correct it.

When I run a lot of powder coated metal through my straight shot oven, the building begins to fill with smoke. The building has a negative airflow. I know this because when I open the doors I feel a lot of air being pulled in. Do you know of a quick fix or maybe an airflow specialist who could help? Or could it simply be an exhaust problem?
