Question:
How can I protect 6061 aluminum that will be immersed in deionized water for an extended period? W. K.
Answer:
Two methods come to mind: electroless nickel and tin plating. Electroless nickel should do a good job but if there were issues with magnetic permeability, it would not be a good choice. Tin plating is another good choice and it should not cause any problems with magnetic properties of the aluminum.
