Blackening Steel—One More Time

Blackening Steel—One More Time

Share

Last December I answered a question regarding the blackening of steel. In February, I added some additional information to my original answer. One of the readers of this column pointed out to me that it is important to be familiar with the Mil Spec that discusses the black oxide coatings of ferrous-based materials. The specification is MIL-DTL-13924D. It is available at http://assist.daps.dla.mil/online/start/. Click on the button labeled “Quick Search” and then under Document ID type in the above document number. You will be taken to a page that allows you to download the complete specification.
