Bulk Electropolishing
Is there any way to bulk electropolish smaller parts? We have received requests to electropolish parts that are small and difficult to individually rack. We were thinking of using a barrel technique to do this. Will it work?
Q: Is there any way to bulk electropolish smaller parts? We have received requests to electropolish parts that are small and difficult to individually rack. We were thinking of using a barrel technique to do this. Will it work? P.C.
A: I am not aware of any methods for bulk electropolishing. Trying to perform electropolishing in a barrel has a number of problems. The first one is that the current requirements for electropolishing in a barrel would be extremely high. The second problem is the tumbling of the parts would probably damage or change the appearance of the parts. More importantly the tumbling action in the barrel would remove some of the polarization film that is required when electropolishing.
