Question:
What is nickel silver? I have been asked to submit a pricing quotation for plating a large number of pieces made from this material and want to know what I may be working with. D. B.
Answer:
It's good that you are determining the composition of the base material before submitting a price quotation. I still find plating shops that fail to do this and end up with unexpected surprises when they start plating the parts.
Nickel silver is an alloy that is used in a number of different applications. Silver plated flatware and jewelry are two such examples. It is an alloy that contains:
Component Percentage
Nickel 10 – 15
Copper 55 – 70
Zinc 20 – 35
Hope this helps!
