PAINT ADHESION ON STAINLESS STEEL
We use stainless steel fasteners that have to be painted after assembly. We have tried a number of different processes, but adhesion of the paint has been poor. We would prefer a black finish. Do you have any suggestions?
Q. We use stainless steel fasteners that have to be painted after assembly. We have tried a number of different processes, but adhesion of the paint has been poor. We would prefer a black finish.
Do you have any suggestions? J.D.
A. Your e-mail failed to give details of the process you are using, so all I can suggest are two possible methods. One is a high-temperature black oxide and the other is to apply a thin flash of acid copper which is then blackened in an alkaline oxidizing solution.
