Trouble In The Nickel Tank
Can you recommend a source of information that will help us troubleshoot nickel plating baths?
Q. We seem to have continuing problems with our nickel plating baths. Can you recommend a source of information that will help us troubleshoot these baths? P. N.
A. The best place to get information of this type is to contact the vendor of the nickel plating chemistry you’re using. Most vendors usually have troubleshooting information in the operating manual for the chemistry used in the bath. If you do not have this information, contact you vendor immediately and see if such information can be supplied.
I’m e-mailing you a copy of an item my father wrote 50 years ago called the Nickel Tank Doctor. This one-page chart covers many of the common problems found in nickel plating baths. There’s also a book that discusses the general principles of troubleshooting, Trouble in Your Tank, 4th edition, by Lawrence J. Durney. Unfortunately, the book is no longer in print and finding a copy is next to impossible.
