Additives Company to Phase Out PFAS Products in 2025
BYK Additives will end production of PFAS-containing additives by 2025 and offer environmentally friendly alternatives to customers.
BYK Additives (Columbia, Md.) is ending production of additives containing PFAS. They will encourage customers to phase out products containing PFAS by offering alternatives early in the process and by presenting new formulations with less environmental impact.
The additives company is planning to offer fluorine-free solutions by the end of 2025 when it will be shipping the last batch of additives with PFAS content.
BYK does use fluorinated alkyl compounds to a small extent as raw materials in the manufacture of selected additives. These are chemically bound in additives, are non-volatile and are used only in closed or contained systems.
In addition to stopping production of all PFAS products by the end of 2025, the company will have also converted all of its production facilities worldwide to PFAS-free firefighting foam and have invested in new and modified firefighting equipment.
