Chemical Company Awarded for Automotive Coating Concept
The monocoat simplifies the paint line of automobiles and the low temperature curing technology reduces energy consumption during manufacturing.
BASF (Florham Park, N.J.) released the monocoat Efflorescence, which combines all functionalities in a single layer including a pearl-like visual effect without the use of traditional effect pigments and a reduction of the car body heating because of more than 65% of light reflection.
The approach has been recognized within the Red Dot Award: Design Concept, a competition that honors innovations as the precursors of future products.
The Red Dot jury honored the appearance and production process of the monocoat. The application procedure of Efflorescence is reduced to a single layer with a baking temperature of 176°F. This approach simplifies the process and reduces material and energy supply in production.
Efflorescence was the key color for Asia Pacific in BASF’s 2022-2023 Automotive Color Trends collection called New Array.
