Nominations for the 2022 Finishing Hall of Fame are being accepted now through December 31.

Products Finishing has announced that its 2022 Finishing Hall of Fame program is now open for nominations. A committee will be assembled to review the nominations and vote on selections. Inductees will be announced in the February 2022 issue of the magazine.

PF’s Hall of Fame program is committed to recognizing historically significant individuals who have been instrumental in the development and growth of the surface finishing industry. Nominees are sought from the electroplating, anodizing, powder coating, liquid coating, electrocoating, mechanical finishing and vacuum coating industries.

Nominations for the 2022 Finishing Hall of Fame are being accepted now through December 31, 2021. Each nominee must be notable for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The nominee significantly improved surface finishing efficiency and productivity through process or technology innovations.
  • The nominee established widely accepted best practices in surface finishing areas such as applications, product development, quality, safety, or supply chain and logistics.
  • The nominee set new standards for surface finishing in areas such as innovation, technology and industry education.
  • The nominee influenced, supported or advocated for the surface finishing industry through research, writing, activism, policies or thought leadership.
  • The nominee promoted and advanced the surface finishing industry through volunteer efforts in local chapters or national committees of related organizations.

  • Non-PFAS Wetting Agents for Decorative Chromium(VI) Plating

    This article is based on a presentation given at NASF SUR/FIN 2022, in Rosemont, Illinois, in Session 6, Responses to PFAS / PFOA.  It follows the case study of three facilities’ conversion from PFAS-containing wetting agents to non-PFAS equivalents, eliminating PFAS and moving forward with a smaller and more sustainable environmental footprint.  The journey of conversion from PFAS-containing wetting agents in both chromic-sulfuric etch and hexavalent decorative plating tanks can be complicated and winding due to deep rooted standard industry practices, as well as state and federal regulations.  Outlined here is a clear course of action that led to eliminating PFAS from the facilities’ wetting agent strategies.
