Rotary Atomizer Enables VOC-Free Color Changes
Dürr’s EcoBell4 Pro enables mixed 2-component paint systems to be directly fed into the atomizer's return system with a reduced VOC count.
Dürr System Inc.’s highlights the development of EcoBell4 Pro technology that enables mixed two-component paint systems to be fed directly into the return system within the atomizer. According to the company, this eliminates volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in the paint booth during flushing processes and color changes. The solution has been deployed in two top coat lines for more than a year.

The EcoBell PurgeBox collecting system with special filter mats already reduces VOC emissions by up to 60%, says Dürr, and further reduces VOC load by enabling a return system for 2C clearcoats.
This technology includes up to two main needles in the atomizer and the company’s diaphragm valve technology, which ensures high mixing quality with minimal mixing volume.
Low VOC emissions of only 5% occur solely during the bell disk cleaning in the EcoBell Cleaner D2, with no VOC release during flushing or color changes.
The EcoBell4 Pro setup offers maximum flexibility. Two returns for 2C material are integrated in each robot arm. While one body is being painted, the stock paint and hardener for the next body can be prepared in parallel on a second channel. The EcoBell4 Pro rotary atomizer is available with the return system in the 2×2C and 1×2C variants, while the EcoBell3 can be retrofitted with 1×2C.
