Question:
Can you give me a good formulation for an aluminum bright dip? S.D.
Answer:
Here is a basic formulation.
Phosphoric acid (85%) |
94% v/v |
Nitric acid (42°Bé) | 6% v/v |
Use at 180-185F.
Another formulation based on the old “Kynalbrite” process has the following formulation:
Phosphoric acid |
78% v/v |
Nitric acid | 11% v/v |
Sulfuric acid | 11% v/v |
Ferrous sulfate | 0.8% oz/gal |
Use at 95-100C. This bright dip generates a lot of fumes and should only be used where good ventilation is available.
