Blackened Brass
How can I go about blackening small, stamped brass components?
Q: How can I go about blackening small, stamped brass components? W. I.
A: There are number of ways that brass can be blackened. There are proprietary hot and room-temperature blackening baths that work well. You can find vendors for these baths by going to www.pfonline.com and searching the Plating Technology Suppliers Database under Blackening Processes, solutions. You will find a list of vendors with links to their web sites. The same list is available in the 2007 PRODUCTS FINISHING DIRECTORY AND TECHNOLOGY GUIDE on pages 226-228.
A Google search under “brass blackening” will give you a large number of “hits” as will a search of PF ONLINE. Another site, www.finishing.com, also has much useful information on the subject.
