COBALT SULFAMATE PLATING
Can you give some information about a cobalt sulfamate plating bath?
Q. Can you give some information about a cobalt sulfamate plating bath? M.F.
A. Cobalt and nickel are quite similar in many of their properties so you would expect the plating baths to be similar.
There is one difference cobalt dissolves with 100% efficiency without the use of chloride or bromides whereas nickel usually requires the presence of the anions to obtain efficient dissolution.
Following is a typical formulation for the bath. ?
Component | Concentration |
Cobalt sulfamate | 450 g/L |
Formamide | 30 g/L |
Total cobalt metal | 105 g/L |
Parameter | Control Range |
pH | 3–5 |
Temperature | 20–50oC |
Current density | 10–50 ASF |
