Umicore MDS Expands Into the Semiconductor Market
Umicore’s business unit is growing its semiconductor product offerings with its acquisition of Shinhao Materials and its copper plating capabilities.
Umicore’s (Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany) business unit Metal Deposition Solutions (MDS) is expanding its product offerings for the growing semiconductors market with the earlier bolt-on acquisition of its Chinese partner Shinhao Materials LLC (Suzhou).

Shinhao focuses on copper plating for the packaging sector. Umicore and Shinhao originally began a partnership in 2019 that combined Shinhao’s technical know-how and IP in copper additives under the
IntraCu product line with Umicore’s global infrastructure.
IntraCu is expected to benefit from applications in AI and in display substrate applications. It will also be manufactured at MDS’ site in Germany to meet demand in Europe and the U.S.
Umicore Suzhou Semiconductor Materials Co. Ltd. (USSM) will be headquartered at Shinhao’s research and production site in Wujiang, close to MDS’ customers in Asia.
