Dürr EcoDryScrubber Selected to Paint Shinkansen Train
Shinkansen high-speed train is known for its ability to reach all major cities in Japan quickly and on time.
Dürr, a leader in paint and application technology systems and services, said that the Japanese train operator, JR Tokai, will rely on Dürr’s EcoDryScrubber solution in its new paintshop to paint aluminum panels on the Shinkansen high-speed train.
This announcement illustrates how Dürr has established itself in the highly competitive Japanese market as it continues to bring powerful yet flexible paint systems and services to manufacturers.
The EcoDryScrubber from Dürr is an environmentally-friendly, reliable solution that leverages dry separation to capture and filter out overspray that occurs during painting. Since introducing the EcoDryScrubber, Dürr has equipped 80 percent of its paint shops with the innovative dry separation technology. The system is scheduled to enter service for the Shinkansen train in Hamamatsu in summer 2015.
The Shinkansen high-speed train is known for its ability to reach all major cities in Japan quickly and on time. An important part of the train's success story, which spans several decades, is the fact that the overall vehicle concept and its individual components have been continually advanced further. This commitment to innovation is why JR Tokai chose to fit aerodynamically optimized aluminum panels that are coated in a special paint booth. The overspray that accumulates in the booth will be filtered out using the EcoDryScrubber dry separation system from Dürr, which has enjoyed especially high demand in the automotive industry since it was launched six years ago.
The reason for the popularity of the system is simple: Limestone powder acts as a natural binding agent, eliminating the need to use water and coagulation chemicals and to dispose of paint sludge. Dry separation of overspray not only makes the exhaust air from the booth cleaner; the system also requires little maintenance, is easy to operate, is compatible with almost every climate, and can even be used for all types of paint. The environment benefits as well, since the paint-saturated limestone powder does not need to be disposed of and can be employed in other areas, such as the cement industry.
"We are pleased that we can serve another industry with this project, not to mention a market that is as technologically challenging as the one in Japan," said Hirokazu Okahana, managing director of Dürr Japan.
