HAZY EMBLEMS
How can I prevent a hazy appearance when I gold plate car emblems and small items found around the home?
Q. I have a part-time business that involves aftermarket gold plating of car emblems and small items found around the home. I am having problems with some of the car emblems having a hazy appearance.
How can I prevent this problem? L.L.
A. Assuming all of your solutions are fresh and you are diligent about replacing the anode pads, the most likely cause is incomplete removal of the chrome layer prior to gold plating. Review your chrome removal step to be sure you are doing it in a consistent manner. I would also check with the vendor of your brush plating solutions to see if they have any additional suggestions.
