MacDermid Parent Finalizes Enthone, OMG Purchase
It's Platform's third acquisition after its acquisitions of MacDermid in October 2013 and OM Group, Inc. in October 2015.
MacDermid parent Platform Specialty Products Corp. finalized its purchase of Alent plc, the owners of Enthone. The closing of the transaction will prompt the launch of MacDermid Performance Solutions, a division of Platform that will combine the original MacDermid operations with businesses from Alent (Enthone and Alpha and their subsidiary company, Fernox), along with the recently acquired OM businesses.
“We are excited to welcome Alent to the Platform family,” says Scot Benson, president of Platform's Performance Applications segment. “This transaction propels us into a new chapter for the business. Alent's talent and resources will enhance our flexibility and expertise to develop new and improved products and capabilities. This acquisition will augment our ability to support our customers through innovation and technical support.”
This transaction marks Platform's third acquisition within the Performance Applications operating segment after its acquisitions of MacDermid in October 2013 and the electronic chemicals and photomasks businesses of OM Group, Inc. in October 2015.
Platform says the new entity will pool the experience and resources of each company and unify sales strategies in order to improve processes, drive innovation and deliver best-in-class products and services at every stage of the supply chain. Platform believes that combining these highly complementary companies will provide an opportunity to unlock substantial value through the realization of material costs synergies and sales growth opportunities.
“Customers, supply chain partners, employees and investors will all benefit as we unify sales strategies, improve processes throughout the company, expand global reach, and continue to deliver the high quality products and services that all of you have come to expect,” says Frank Monteiro, COO of MacDermid Performance Solutions. “In the near-term, as we begin to build the best company possible from the combination of these businesses, our customers’ experience will not change. A comprehensive branding and integration effort will be deployed in the coming months, and in the interim we encourage you to reach out to your local company contacts with any questions about this announcement.”

NASF/AESF Foundation Research Project #122: Electrochemical Approaches to Treatment of PFAS in Plating Wastewater - 7th Quarterly Report
The NASF-AESF Foundation Research Board has selected a project on addressing the problem of PFAS and related chemicals in plating wastewater streams, studying PFAS destruction via electrooxidation and electrocoagulation. Our last report described the results from experiments of EO with a Magnéli phase Ti4O7 anode on the degradation of eight perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs). In this seven quarter report, we describe work to further explore how the degradation of different PFAAs are related to their molecular structures.
