B.J. Mason, founder and President of Mid-Atlantic Finishing in Maryland and a past president of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishing Society, died Saturday, October 4.

Mason formed Mid-Atlantic Finishing in 1976 and saw it become a premier national surface finishing company, providing a vast array of services to industries nationwide. One of his proudest moments came when Mid-Atlantic plated all of the structural steel used in the restoration of the William Penn Statue atop Philadelphia's City Hall.

Mason received the Silvio Taormina Award from the National Association For Surface Finishing in 2013.

"He was one of a kind and will truly be missed," said Christian Richter, executive vice president of the NASF.
