Q. I’m an artist and want to color a number of yellow brass art pieces with a red finish. I can’t find any information on the process. Can you help me? R.A.K.

A. I do not have a formulation for you to try but I can recommend a book (I do not have a copy in my personal library) that contains many formulations for coloring of metals. The book, The Coloring, Bronzing and Patination of Metals, by Richard Hughes and Michael Row, is available from Amazon.com. When I checked earlier today, the book was in stock and used copies were readily available.
