I have a part made from Monel that was plated with nickel strike and silver plated. I need to strip the plating from the outer diameter and leave the inner diameter plated without attacking the base metal. Any suggestions?
I’m looking for an environmentally friendly pretreat for reinforcing rods that are to be epoxy coated on a conveyor line. What is available in the market that can increase my cathodic E-coat performance?
Our chemical supplier is telling us that variations in steel from different mills can produce huge differences in salt-spray results even though it is all cold rolled commercial quality steel. How much truth is there to this, and is there anything specific to look for, or is it a matter of doing extensive testing with materials from various mills?
1) I would love to be able to get my hands on a book that can teach me a great deal more on the passivation process. Is there such a book out there? 2) We rinse parts in a closed-loop bath that is not controlled for pH or any other content parameters. Under what conditions do you need to take the acid bath step? 3) I am setting up passivation and chem film lines in a shop and am wondering what are some good resources for getting started? 4) Are there biocompatibility issues with passivating stainless steel?
A customer has just purchased a powder coating plant. The steel is being stored outside and is very rusty prior to powder coating. Please provide recommendations for pre-treatment prior to powder coat.
A facility uses a dilute solution of hydrofluoric and phosphoric acids to pretreat aluminum parts prior to painting. Should this process be classified as conversion coating, etching, cleaning orsomething else? Would the acids produce a phosphate coating, or is it necessary to have a cathodic metal in the solution to conversion coat?
We have etching, erosion and severe mass loss and are losing the functional dimensions. Is this happening because the nickel is too low and the chlorine is now too harsh against the chrome and other component into the 2101? What would you recommend to strip the chrome without any effect on the duplex stainless surface?
We are yellow chromating aluminum alloy 360 die castings. After processing, a grey/black material appears on rags used to wipe the parts. What is this material, and can it be prevented?
