We have a vendor that uses a proprietary aqueous mixture of 5-10% phosphoric acid and 1-5% alcohol (2-butoxyethanol, or butylcellosolve) to degrease aluminum parts prior to cleaning/etching/deoxidizing the aluminum for chromating.

I am working on a cleaning application for die casting parts (valve bodies of automatic transmissions, many cavities, very intricate form). The problem: the parts are covered with a sticky layer of graphite, because the casting company uses the graphite to facilitate the release of the parts from the molds after the casting process.

In one of your previous replies, I was surprised to read that you are still promoting the use of hazardous nitric acid for passivation of stainless steels, especially for brush-on applications.
