IFS Coatings Invests in Terrapass Carbon Offsets
IFS Coatings has begun purchasing carbon offsets through Terrapass, furthering the powder company’s sustainability goals and contributing to global environmental projects.
Starting in January 2021, IFS Coatings Inc. (Gainsville, Texas) will further its work towards becoming more sustainable by purchasing monthly carbon offsets through Terrapass (San Francisco, Calif.).
The carbon offset initiative builds on IFS Coatings’ existing environmental responsibility programs, and is part of a long-term strategy to continuously improve the company’s environmental impact and ensure a more sustainable business for customers, employees, suppliers and communities.
“Part of our mission statement is to provide the environmentally responsible choice, and we take that extremely seriously,” explains Glynn Mason, president of IFS Coatings. “We choose only to manufacture powder coatings — a significantly more sustainable coating option when compared to other finishes — and our mission goes beyond our product into every area of our business. We are constantly looking at ways in which we can reduce our environmental impact, and using the Terrapass program to offset our carbon footprint is now a key part of that.”
The Terrapass system invests in carbon reduction projects, and carbon offsets purchased through Terrapass support an exciting portfolio of projects in communities around the United States and the world, including reforestation; renewable energy produced by wind power; and methane capture at dairy farms, landfills and abandoned coal mines. IFS Coatings says all Terrapass projects meet the highest standards for quality, monitoring and independent verification.

NASF/AESF Foundation Research Project #122: Electrochemical Approaches to Treatment of PFAS in Plating Wastewater - 12th Quarterly Report
This NASF-AESF Foundation research project report covers the 12th quarter of project work (October – December 2023) at the University of Georgia. In our previous report, we described our work on performance and effect of surface fluorinated Ti4O7 anodes on PFAS degradation in reactive electrochemical membrane (REM) mode. This quarter, our experiments involved utilizing porous Ti4O7 plates serving both as anodes and membranes. Tests compared pristine and F-18.6 Ti4O7 anodes at current densities of 10 mA/cm2 and 40 mA/cm2. This 12th quarterly report discusses the mechanisms of the effects on EO performance by anode surface fluorination.

NASF/AESF Foundation Research Project #120: Electrochemical Destruction of Perfluorooctanesulfonate in Electroplating Wastewaters - April 2022-March 2023
This NASF-AESF Foundation research project report covers project work from April 2022 to March 2023 at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The overall objective of this work is to utilize a cost-effective reactive electrochemical membrane (REM) for the removal of PFAS from synthetic electroplating wastewater. Initial results for the oxidation of PFOA with three different catalysts are discussed.
