The course provides attendees with a broad range of information related to metal finishing operations that are common in the airline/aerospace industry.
The National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF; Washington, D.C.) is offering its Airline & Aerospace Finishing Course in two installments. The first part takes place August 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. The second part takes place October 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26. Tuition for NASF members is $1,250; for non-members it costs $1,650. The registration deadline is July 26, 2022.
The Airline & Aerospace Finishing Course provides attendees with a broad range of information related to metal finishing operations that are common in the airline/aerospace industry. This training program is specifically designed for employees and supervisors working in airline/aerospace OEMs, suppliers to the airline/aerospace industry and aircraft rework facilities.
The course consists of two parts containing 21 lessons total. Each lesson offers valuable, practical information and prepares attendees for the optional Airline & Aerospace Finishing exam. An exam score of 70+ earns industry-recognized credential, Certified Aerospace Finisher (CAF), and will contribute one credit toward certification as a Master Surface Finisher (MSF). NASF says the MSF is the world’s most respected — and most widely recognized — designation for finishing industry professionals. Those passing six course exams earn the MSF designation.
The first part of the course includes the following topics:
- Electroplating Basics
- Corrosion of Metals
- Hydrogen Embrittlement
- Metals and Alloys Utilized in Aerospace
- Chemical Surface Preparation of Substrates for Plating Substrates
- Mechanical Surface Preparation
- Masking Techniques
- Quality Conformance Testing
- Plating Solution Maintenance
- Chem Film
- Zinc and Maganese Phoshating
The second part of the course includes the following topics:
- LHE Zinc-Nickel Alloy Plating
- Cadmium Ti-Cad and Nickel-Cad Diffused Coatings
- Copper and Silver Plating
- Sulfamate and Nickel Strike Plating
- Hard Chromium Plating
- Anodizing Aluminum
- Electroless Nickel Deposition
- Brush Plating
- Stripping
- Thermal Spray and PVD
Attendees should have at minimum a high school diploma. Some experience in processing parts for surface finishing is helpful but not required. The training materials and instruction are in English. In many cases, metric and/or US/English units of measurement are utilized. Students are taught how to convert between the two systems of measurement.
Companies that register five or more employees will receive 10% off. Registration is open now.
