Chromium Plating and "Star Dusting"
I work for a company that does not do electroplating but does outsource large amounts of decorative chromium plating. One of our vendors has problems with “star dusting” and tells us that it is the base material and not the plating process itself. What do you think?

We recently have changed over to powder coat application. The problem now is the filler or putty cannot stand up to the 400°F for curing our powder. Is there something out there that is conductive, reach full strength in a minimum of time and to withstand the 400°F heat for the paint to cure?

Will the heat of curing them (around 400°F, I understand) damage or discolor them? Most of the badges are brass or silver (some with soldered fittings on the back) and several of the medals are bronze. I know that the heat of soldering brass will usually discolor the brass, but would the heat of a powder coating oven be sufficient to melt the solder or discolor the metals?
