Apple's chief design officer Jony Ive showed a video at the Sept. 7 event that highlighted a new "jet black" anodized finish that demonstrated a polishing method called "rotational 3D polishing."

"An entirely reengineered enclosure results in a water resistant iPhone offering protection like never before against spills, splashes and dust."
Wired magazine spoke with finishing expert Ted Mooney and Robert Probert, the author of Aluminum How To: The Chromatizing, Anodizing, Hard Coating Handbook, about the new process. You can read their comments HERE.
