Electroless Chromium
I recently spoke with an individual who stated that there is an electroless chromium plating bath available. Can you give me any information on this bath? Is it commercially available?
Q. I recently spoke with an individual who stated that there is an electroless chromium plating bath available. Can you give me any information on this bath? Is it commercially available? K.P.
A. This question “pops up” every year or so and the answer is the same as before. As far as I know there is no commercially available electroless chromium plating bath. If you do a Google search using the term “electroless chromium plating” you will get a number of hits and, yes, you will find a formulation or two and at least one older patent on such a process. However, it appears that the best you can expect is a very thin chromium coating which is, at best, nothing more than an immersion deposit.
