Eco-friendly Coating Stripper Helps Protect Employees
The B17e from Benco Sales is a chemical stripper free of methylene chloride.
Benco Sales Inc. says its eco-friendly stripper, the B17e Eco-Strip, eases manufacturers’ concerns about using acid-based strippers around employees.
B17e Eco-Strip is a chemical stripper that does not contain methylene chloride, a compound developed for removing most coatings on metals. The stripper is said to quickly remove epoxies, polyurethanes, polyester coatings, electro-coat coatings and noncatalyzed paints and coatings from vehicle wheels, frames, brakes and parts prior to powder coatings or painting. Benco says most finishes completely dissolve within 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
In addition to its dissolving properties, B17e is also said to be low odor, going well with larger powder coat operations. According to the company, B17e’s long life enables it to clean up to four times more items than available non-MCL strippers.
“Stripping wheels is the ugly part of powder coating. Phil came to our shop and spent time listening to our issues. He came prepared to offer more than one chemical to meet our needs,” says Warren Ellis of Wellis Wheels Inc. “We had a heated tank and Eco -Strip was worth the risk to switch.”
The liquid is available in 275 gallon totes and 55 gallon drums. For optimal results, the company instructs the stripper needs to be heated to between 190° to 200°. B17e is also designed to not need testing — only siphoning, skimming debris and topping off to replenish supply is necessary.
“B17e Eco-Strip cut our strip times in half, cut our cost in half and more than doubled the volume of wheels we strip,” says Jorge Vasquez from Wheel Doctor of Miami Inc. “We have used the same chemical for 6 months. Chemical loss is negligible because finishes dissolve into a fine sludge. Wheels come out clean with minimal water rinse needed.”
