Zirconium Conversion Coating Reported to Reduce Process Costs
Torch Surface Technologies offers zirconium conversion coating family of products designed to provide an alternative to iron or zinc phosphate pretreatments.
Torch Surface Technologies (a Division of Hubbard-Hall) offers Bond Guard ZRC. This family of zirconium conversion coating processes provides advanced bonding and anti-corrosion treatment for all metals (steel, aluminum and zinc galvanize).
The company says Bond Guard ZRC is formulated to replace conventional iron or zinc phosphate products in pretreatment applications with improved performance (salt spray performance >1,000 hours) and environmental advantages. The phosphate-free process is said to provide significant cost-saving advantages by reducing total processing cost (up to 50% vs. iron phosphate), minimizing energy consumption (ambient temperature operation capabilities), lowering waste disposal costs (never dump — phosphates or related chemicals), and reducing scaling and sludging.
