How Fabricators and Finishers Can Finish the Job—Fast
Fabricators and finishers can work together to reduce lead-time. Sheet metal fabricators and custom coaters—so alike in some ways, unlike in others—sometimes clash. Both juggle myriad orders of varying quantities and due dates, and both measure success on throughput: the more work they ship during a given period, the more revenue they can expect.

We have been coating aluminum alloys for some time with inconsistent field performance of the coating. Following your advice,we are now having a tri-chrome pretreatment process being done at a local vendor on all of our aluminum castings. So far our performance is excellent, but we are seeing failures in testing on a new product in A413 alloy. Our casting vendor tells us A380 would be much more suitable. Do you see any issues in powder coating this alloy now that we are doing the tri-chrome pretreatment process?

We’re facing problems in powder coating on sheets of cold-rolled closed annealed parts. We found that, after some days, the color is peeling off, and we have found corrosion beneath that. We do a three-in-one cleaning process and then powder coat at our job shop. Our product is an acoustic enclosure of a diesel generator set, so we are using polyester powder for sun resistance. Is there a solution, or should we switch to another process?
