“SLICK” E-COAT
We manufacture fasteners used on trucks and other heavy equipment. We are currently using a dip spin painting process. One of our customers has suggested we consider having them coated with cathodic epoxy electrocoating. Apparently the E-coat film is so good that it creates too much friction. Is there an E-coat material that might be available for applications like this?

I am a finishing engineer in a sheet metal fabricating factory. At a recent staff meeting, our boss asked us to look into reducing every energy-using operation. We have lowered the temperature of our iron phosphate pretreatment system. Can we do the same with the zinc phosphate pretreatment?

I am our facility’s environmental, health and safety manager. Periodically, we have very high-pH wastewaters that cause the pH within the cyanide oxidation step to be well above our desired upper limit of 11. Our operator has requested that we add sulfuric acid into the cyanide oxidation stage whenever the pH rises above 11. I am very concerned about the release of hydrogen cyanide if something goes wrong and the system accidentally drives the pH well below 7. Are there any safer acid substitutes?

I work for a company called Fuel Systems. We are being forced to move to an aluminized steel product to help in the reduction of rust on the inside of the tanks. We have a powder coat line that we put all our steel tanks through, and we’re finding that many, not all, of the aluminized tanks are showing blistering after final curing.

am the senior engineering manager in charge of product development execution. The problem comes about after a translucent paint is applied over a chrome-plated polycarbonate/ABS plastic substrate. I’m assuming that the chrome plating must be prepared (cleaned or etched) before paint application, but I need some recommendations to forward to the factory.
