Dörken Corporation USA celebrated its 15th anniversary with key industry executives in attendance at the Manistee National Resort.
Dörken Corporation USA, an operating unit of Dörken MKS-Systeme, Herdecke, Germany and a global manufacture of corrosion protection coating systems, for a variety of parts including fasteners, springs, brackets, clips, stamped parts and large underbody componets recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of the company’s presence in North America.
The company hosted coating and plating licensees, and OEM equipment manufacturers to a two-day conference and seminar at the Manistee National Resort in Manistee, Michigan, August 16-17. The group gathered to hear brief presentations from Dr. Martin Welp, CEO of Dorken MKS-Systeme, Frederick Schultz, president, Dorken Corporation USA, Mike Vohland, publisher of Automotive Design and Production, as well as presentations from equipment builders Martin Mueller, WMV, Kevin Dyche, SIDASA Engineering and Brad Hannah, Perceptive Industries.
“The event was a wonderful way for the industry to get together and discuss ways we can all work to develop the best possible solutions for coatings," said Dr. Welp. "We heard from the builders and coaters and will continue to work toward providing those solutions with Dorken being an instrumental part in that development.”
Frederick Schultz, noted “Our 15th anniversary is another milestone and testament to our continued efforts in North America and an investment in our company’s overall global finishing strategies. The worldwide Dörken team continues to provide improvements in products and services to better serve our licensees, with everyone working for a common goal, success and pride in the high quality of the finished product delivered to the global supply chain.”
Dörken’s global coating solutions are approved for use by and meet the standards and specifications for corrosion protection, sealants, and lubricity performance of fasteners of vehicle manufacturers and Tier One suppliers worldwide yet are environmentally friendly. Its product development programs and manufacturing operations are certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and to ISO 14001.

NASF/AESF Foundation Research Project #122: Electrochemical Approaches to Treatment of PFAS in Plating Wastewater - 6th Quarterly Report
The NASF-AESF Foundation Research Board has selected a project on addressing the problem of PFAS and related chemicals in plating wastewater streams, studying PFAS destruction via electrooxidation and electrocoagulation. This sixth quarter report covers the continued assessment of eight perfluoroalkyl acids PFAAs most commonly found in wastewaters, by electro-oxidation with a Magnéli phase Ti4O7 anode across a range of anodic potentials in solutions, exploring the reaction mechanisms. To summarize, the PFAAs start to exhibit degradation behavior when the anodic potential reaches a level where water oxidation occurs, suggesting that the hydroxyl free radicals generated via water oxidation play a role in PFAA degradation.

NASF/AESF Foundation Research Project #120: Electrochemical Destruction of Perfluorooctanesulfonate in Electroplating Wastewaters - April 2022-March 2023
This NASF-AESF Foundation research project report covers project work from April 2022 to March 2023 at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The overall objective of this work is to utilize a cost-effective reactive electrochemical membrane (REM) for the removal of PFAS from synthetic electroplating wastewater. Initial results for the oxidation of PFOA with three different catalysts are discussed.
