BYD Auto Selects Dürr Technology for Vehicle Painting
The Chinese car manufacturer is building its first European passenger car plant in Hungary, which will be equipped with more than 120 robots for various painting lines.
Vehicle manufacturer BYD Auto Co. Ltd. (Shenzen, China) is building its first European passenger car plant based in Szeged, Hungary, and is claimed to be the first Chinese car manufacturer to do so. To paint its new energy vehicles (NEV), BYD has selected Dürr Systems AG (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) to equip it with painting technology.

The German mechanical and plant engineering company will send more than 120 robots to the plant in Hungary for various painting lines. These robots, fitted with EcoBell3 atomizers, are said to deliver high quality and will support sustainable painting.
The painting lines will also use Dürr’s latest EcoRP series painting robot, available in six- and seven-axis variants for interior and exterior painting. The seven-axis robot offers high precision and flexibility for interior painting, capable of reaching difficult-to-access areas. Six-axis robots will handle exterior painting. The scope of supply also includes the corresponding door, lid and flap openers as additional aids for the painting process.
EcoBell3 high-speed rotary atomizers ensure painting quality with uniform shade, flow and layer thickness. When combined with the associated cleaning equipment and color change technology, the atomizer family minimizes paint and solvent consumption and enables fast color changes within the cycle time.
