Scanning Probes Speed Coating Thickness Testing
The Elcometer 456 coating thickness gage has three Ultra/Scan probe options for measurement of coatings on either ferrous or non-ferrous metals.
The Elcometer 456 coating thickness gage has three Ultra/Scan probe options for measurement of coatings on either ferrous or non-ferrous metals. The probes have replaceable plastic end caps that snap on so the scan sliding action does not cause wear to the probe tips. The gage’s offset feature ensures the thickness of the cap is included in the calibration adjustment process and discounted from the readings.
Key features of the gage include a 2.4" color display and memory for 150,000 readings in 2,500 batches, with output to ElcoMaster software. It provides ±1 percent measurement accuracy and fast reading at a rate of greater than 70 readings per minute (or 140+ readings per minute with Ultra/Scan probes).
USB and Bluetooth connectivity allow data to be transferred to a computer running ElcoMaster and via the internet using a mobile app.Related Content

Smart Modeling and Simulation of Electroplating Systems for Real-Time Monitoring of Chemical, Water and Energy Consumption (NASF Summer Research Grant)
An AESF Foundation summer research grant provided an excellent opportunity for a PhD student to learn how to use chemical engineering fundamentals to scientifically characterize an electroplating process through integrated dynamic modeling and simulation, and how to develop digital twin (DT)-based virtual plant that can be of any process configuration. This is a critical step for the investigation of new technology development for smart and sustainable manufacturing in the surface finishing industry.
