Grieve’s No. 911 is an electrically heated, 500°F truck oven used for paint baking. Workspace dimensions measure 39" × 36" × 48". Nichrome-wire tubular heating elements with 30 kW of power and a 2,000-cfm, 2-hp recirculating blower provide heated horizontal airflow to the workload.

This truck oven features an aluminized steel exterior, 4" thick insulated walls and a Type 304, 2B-finish stainless steel interior with a continuously back-welded seam construction. A 650-cfm powered forced exhauster is included as well as motorized dampers on the fresh air intake and exhaust for accelerated cooling. Two pairs of oven truck wheel guide tracks are built on top of the 2" insulated oven floor. Control features include a digital indicating temperature controller, a strip chart recorder, an SCR power controller and an over-temperature alarm.

  • Non-PFAS Wetting Agents for Decorative Chromium(VI) Plating

This article is based on a presentation given at NASF SUR/FIN 2022, in Rosemont, Illinois, in Session 6, Responses to PFAS / PFOA.  It follows the case study of three facilities’ conversion from PFAS-containing wetting agents to non-PFAS equivalents, eliminating PFAS and moving forward with a smaller and more sustainable environmental footprint.  The journey of conversion from PFAS-containing wetting agents in both chromic-sulfuric etch and hexavalent decorative plating tanks can be complicated and winding due to deep rooted standard industry practices, as well as state and federal regulations.  Outlined here is a clear course of action that led to eliminating PFAS from the facilities’ wetting agent strategies.
